Dining With Us

Our oak panelled, intimate Restaurant is at the heart of the Manor. Chef Rupert Gleadow’s culinary skills are highly rated by food guides such as Zagat 2009 (28/30), The Good Food Guide Guide and the AA which has awarded Gravetye the coveted three rosettes.

Rupert honed his skills in a variety of countries, including France, Australia and his native Scotland before coming to Gravetye four years ago as Head Chef. His cuisine is described as “modern British” although you will find influences from far a field. Rupert prides himself on the use of locally sourced organic produce where possible, with much being available from Gravetye’s own garden and local farms.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a one acre walled kitchen garden, which during the summer months provides 95% of all fruit and vegetables we use in the kitchen.

The largest table in the restaurant accommodates eight diners. There is no set dress code, we wish for our guests to be comfortable in the dining room. Although not obligatory, most gentlemen tend to wear jacket and tie in the evening.

Menus

Gravetye is open 365 days a year, but is closed occasionally on account of an 'Exclusive Use'. Fortunately we get quite busy during very good weather and on weekends and we strongly recommend advance bookings for lunch and dinner.
We suggest two menu options for each service; a fixed priced seasonal à la carte and a daily table d'hôte menu.

À La Carte

A seasonal menu with a choice of 6 or 7 dishes per course. Click below to see our current menu and prices.

Table d'hôte

A daily changing menu available for lunch and dinner, consisting of a three course meal providing a choice of two dishes per course. For Sunday lunch we offer a three course menu with a choice of three dishes per course. Click below to see examples of these menus and prices.

Private Dining

In over five decades we have established a renowned and excellent reputation with our guests to be that special venue for the special celebrations of life's special occasions. It is our constant aim and our great pride to ensure that all events are executed with impeccable service, delicious food and an unforgettable ambiance in a beautiful environment.

We have two private dining rooms at Gravetye, seating up to sixteen or up to twenty persons respectively.

At Gravetye we do not have a separate banqueting kitchen, therefore all our private parties are served the same individually prepared dishes as our à la carte guests in the restaurant. For this reason we kindly ask you choose one set menu for all your guests, vegetarians and special dietary requirements will of course be accommodated subject to prior notice. Please note that we offer a choice of seasonal and all-year menus. We shall of course be delighted to prepare any particular dishes that you may have enjoyed in the past.

A deposit of £15.00 per person is required to secure private dining reservations.

Gazebo

Situated in the 'Little Garden' adjacent to the Manor is our stunning Gazebo, an ideal spot for parties of eight to twelve people. It is open from May until September for lunch and early supper, 6.30-7.00pm. Here the eclectic menu is designed for sharing "en famille", an entirely different presentation from the classic plated dishes served in our restaurant.

The menus are designed to be enjoyed by the entire party.

We are delighted to offer two different  picnic experiences whilst staying at Gravetye.

• Simple Picnic – designed for a snack lunch whilst visiting historic gardens and houses, or wanting to rest and relax in the orchards or wild meadows of the hotel grounds.
• Glyndebourne Picnic  - a little more elaborate and with accompanying furniture subject to requirements.
